Living Room and Office - check!

Well we have two more rooms finished today and hoping to finish more today and tomorrow and put this house on the market beginning of next week. Man! What.a.journey. That's all I've got to say about that.

In other news, our new house closed Escrow yesterday and we are so happy! We cannot wait to make it really ours with our style. It's going to be great. Here's a picture of me with my Cameron opening the door of our new house as owners. My hair looks crazy but my Cameron totally makes the picture cute with his adorable self. :)

Today I am showing you our current living room and office. The office is actually bedroom #4 in our house that we use as an office which is adjacent to the living room through double french doors, so it is very open and versatile. It can be used as a bedroom, as an office, as a play room, as a den, as a hobby room, as a music room, or even as a dining room. Let me know what you think!

Here's the office:

Add the master bedroom to the list!

There is so much natural light coming in through the windows in our master bedroom (as you can see) that you cannot even see my gorgeous lamps that I adore. Probably my favorite part about our master bedroom. But I do LOVE how bright it is in here, all at the same time.

Today, as part of getting our house ready to put on the market, I have finished the master bedroom and here I am now showing it to you. You be the judge of how it looks! :) Oh and what you cannot see in the pictures is my baby's crib which is in a corner which works out great for all of us. Enough distance and yet close enough. :)

Pssst, that's a king size bed by the way and it fits perfectly in the room. :)

And here we go... trying to sell a house.

The process of trying to get our house ready to put on the market started a while ago, but I have to tell you, that I am having THE hardest time getting it finished and putting it on the market. These are the things that we have done so far and we are running way behind:

  • Purged, purged, purged
  • Had a yard sale
  • Landscaped the backyard (almost finished so we're counting it)
  • Landscaped the front yard (almost finished so we're also counting it)
  • Cleaned the master bathroom completely and took pictures
  • Cleaned the master bedroom (still gotta work on the master closet)
Should I tell you what I still need to do? Nah, we won't go there cause I'll be typing till tomorrow and maybe even the next day. Anyhow, I did want to come on here and post a few pictures I took today of the master bathroom in our current house. I'm not sure I love them, to be honest, but it is what it is. You be the judge of how it's looking. Hopefully through the pictures you can get a good idea of what it actually looks like.

I'll be showing you guys the rest of the house (our current house) as I get it ready which should be all of this week if I get my butt in gear. Oh, and our new house closes in just two days!! Two days people, soooo exciting!!!

We are getting closer - Vote on flooring for me please!

Our new house closes Escrow in just a few more days! I'm sooooo excited about that!

Let me just remind you of what it looks like and I think that you will agree with me that this house is no show stopper - jaw dropping house. I know. But in my mind I see soooo much potential and we (the husband and I) have huge plans for it. It's all going to be a long process, and just to put in perspective, we see 2014 as being the year of WORK, WORK, WORK! But I am so excited to get started. :)

We are starting to do preparations for it and ordering materials and this is where I need a little input...

I have always wanted to have hardwood floors in my house because it reminds me of growing up in my dear (oh-so-close-to-my-heart) NYC. However, having 5 small children kinda made us realize that we needed to rethink that. We have decided to go with the wood-like porcelain tile planks that are available now-a-days. While I'm not exactly thrilled to have a lot of tile in the house (it's what we have right now) because of the noise (remember, I have 5 small children) it IS more durable AND I can also help the noise situation with rugs and what not.

So what happens now? Will you take a look at these two planks and tell me which one you like best? Option 1 or Option 2? The colors Mint and Mustard Yellow are my current decorating colors in my current house. I will be decorating with the mint in the new house because it is my favorite color but I think I might be done with yellow, so please keep that in mind. ;)

Both options are from Floor & Decor. The top one is Heathland Walnut Porcelain Wood Plank and the bottom one is Oslo Walnut Porcelain Wood Plank. They are both great quality options and the pricing is just right for us.

So VOTE away to your heart's content in the comments please, and thank you! Can't wait to see your responses! :)

Happy 2014 & A Classic Mower Family Recipe

Happy 2014! I'm so excited for this year and all the things that will happen in it.

As we wait for the day that we get to close on our beautiful and charming 1970s house (just 28 days left!) we like to ring in the new year with one of our family's classic recipes. My kids absolutely love it and I would love to share it with you. :) You ready for this? Here it goes!

Mower Family Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting:

Ingredients for Cake:
2 Cups Sugar
1/2 Cup Butter
1 Cup Oil
2 Eggs
3 Tbsp. Baking Cocoa Powder
1 oz. Red Food Coloring
2 1/2 Cups Flour (sifted)
1 Tsp. Salt
1 Buttermilk Packet
1 Cup Water
1 Tsp. Baking Soda
1 1/2 Tsp. Vinegar
1 Tsp. Vanilla Extract

Ingredients for Frosting:
4 Cups Powder Sugar
1 Lb. Cream Cheese
2 Sticks of butter (1 Cup) at room temperature
1 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
1/2 Tsp. Almond Extract
1/2 Tsp. Coconut Extract
Chopped Pecans or Walnuts (optional)

Directions for the Cake:
Set oven to 350 degrees. You will need to do either 2 layers or 3 layers using the batter. In a large bowl mix sifted flour and salt. Set aside. In a separate container, combine the buttermilk packet and the water to make exactly 1 Cup. Set aside. In a large bowl cream sugar, butter, and oil. Add eggs. Mix in baking cocoa powder and food coloring. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternatively with the buttermilk and mix. Blend in vanilla extract. In a small container mix the baking soda and vinegar and add to the mixture. If making two layers, each layer will measure about 3 Cups of the batter each. If making three layers, each layer will measure about 2 Cups of the batter each. Bake each layer for 25-30 minutes or until the center of each layer is not wet when you poke it with a fork or toothpick.

Directions for the Frosting:
In a large container, blend the cream cheese and butter. Add the powdered sugar gradually. Add vanilla extract, the almond extract, and the coconut extract and blend all till combined. When each layer of the cake is completely cool, stack the cake layers with frosting in between them, on top, and sides of the overall cake. Optional: Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the sides of the cake.

Enjoy! This cake is amazing and my kids rave about it and want me to do it again soon. In fact, my 9 year old son was savoring his mouth as he watched me type up this post. That good!
